Conservation
As a responsible operator we have made a commitment to enrich the lives of the local communities, we have strong links with the following organisations in the area
Lion Camp is an active supporter of the South Luangwa Conservation Society (www.slcszambia.org). As well as monthly financial contributions, we provide practical assistance whenever required. Such as providing transport for anti-poaching patrols, carrying out SLCS vehicle maintenance, reporting snared animals, or donating fundraising prizes.
If you are coming to Lion Camp, you can help SLCS and Chipembele Wildlife Education Centre by visiting the Pack for a Purpose website.
The South Luangwa Conservation Society is a non-profit organisation set up in 2003. The society has grown organically and to date they are involved in the following projects in Luangwa:
- Wildlife Rescue
- Human – Wildlife Conflict Mitigation
- Law Enforcement: Deploying anti-poaching patrols
- Community awareness and education
Lion Camp is a corporate member of the Zambian Ornithological Society and a supporter of Birdlife International. We have donated prizes for their charity auctions, and hosted a ‘Rare Bird Club’ members event in 2010.
Lion Camp is also a supporter of the Chipembele Wildlife Education Centre. Cofounded by Anna & Steve Tolan, it opened in 2001.
The aim of the centre is to educate children living in the local community about the value, wonder and rarity of South Luangwa’s wildlife. Also to demonstrate the unique benefits that it brings to the local community.
