Lunchtime Showdown

Wilson was the first to notice the smallish herd of buffalos in front of the lodge whilst we were eating lunch. Next he noticed a lion, then another and another...

At this point it was evident the Lion Camp aka Hollywood pride were in hunting mode, stalking their favourite prey. So Sam, Louise & our guests jumped into a vehicle leaving their lunch plates unfinished. They raced off to get a better view of proceedings, and watched the 6 lions circle the buffalo herd.

The lions chased the buffalo and were in turn chased themselves. They managed to catch an individual, but a brave lone buffalo chased them off and so no kill was made.

Next, the buffalo herd moved across the island and the lions followed. They seem to have reached a temporary stalemate so our vehicle returned to the lodge where everyone finished their Lemon Meringue Pie.

This afternoons’ game drive will return to see what transpires, when the baking sun is no longer directly overhead and after darkness falls.
